Fintan McCarthy came relatively late to rowing after watching the London Olympics at the age of 15. Within a year, he had won his first national title with his twin brother Jake. He began a partnership with Paul O’Donovan in the Lightweight Doubles class in 2019 and has since won three World and two European Championship medals.
At the Tokyo Games McCarthy won a gold medal alongside O’Donovan. Out of the boat, McCarthy has a degree in physiology from UCC and is currently completing his Masters degree in performance coaching.
